1. What is a suppressor (silencer)? ▶
A suppressor, also known as a silencer, is a device attached to the barrel of a firearm that reduces the noise and muzzle blast generated when a round is fired. Suppressors lower the decibel level, making them safer for hearing protection but do not make guns completely silent.
2. Are suppressors legal to own? ▶
Suppressors are legal in 42 states across the United States. Ownership is subject to the National Firearms Act (NFA) and requires approval from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Suppressors are not legal in the following states:
- California
- Delaware
- Hawaii
- Illinois
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- New York
- Rhode Island
3. What is a tax stamp? ▶
A tax stamp is a $200 fee required by the ATF for purchasing suppressors or any other NFA-regulated items. This tax must be paid for each suppressor purchased and is non-refundable.
4. How long does it take to get ATF approval? ▶
ATF approval times vary depending on the application method (Updated 01/25):
- eForm 4 (Individual Applications): Average approval time is approximately 28 days.

- Wait for approval: Your suppressor must be approved by the ATF before it can be transferred to you.

6. What coatings are used on Echo Zulu Defense suppressors? ▶
All Echo Zulu Defense suppressors feature advanced coatings for durability, performance, and ease of maintenance:
- Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) Coating: DLC is a highly durable, wear-resistant coating applied to the exterior. It provides exceptional protection against scratches, corrosion, and extreme temperatures. DLC can withstand temperatures of up to 1200°F without degradation.
- Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) Coating: hBN is applied to the internal surfaces, reducing friction and preventing carbon buildup. This coating improves heat dissipation and makes cleaning significantly easier, especially in dirty calibers like .22 LR.
7. How do I clean my suppressor? ▶
Cleaning methods vary depending on the suppressor. We recommend soaking or ultrasonic cleaning with a diluted Simple Green solution (1:4 ratio) for all models. Avoid abrasive methods and ensure the suppressor is fully dry before storage. Visit our Maintenance Page for detailed instructions.
8. What is Echo Zulu Defense’s warranty policy? ▶
We offer a limited lifetime warranty on all our suppressors. This covers any manufacturing defects. If the suppressor is damaged due to user mistakes, we will replace the suppressor, but the customer is responsible for the tax stamp. Full details can be found in our Warranty Policy.

11. Can I cancel my suppressor order? ▶
Orders can be canceled anytime before ATF paperwork is submitted. After paperwork has been filed, the sale cannot be canceled. If paperwork has not yet been submitted, you may cancel within 30 days of purchase for a refund, minus any restocking fees. Please refer to our Return and Cancellation Policy for details.
12. How do I prevent my suppressor from overheating? ▶
To prevent overheating, avoid sustained full-auto fire or rapid-fire sessions that may cause the suppressor to exceed 900°F. Heat can cause material fatigue in titanium models like the X1R556-Ti. Allow the suppressor to cool between uses.
